Biography

Sam Bishoff is a composer and multi-instrumentalist based in New York City. He is a composer and supervising music editor at Konsonant Music + Post having worked with Gil Talmi and Andrew Gross on projects such as Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer (Netflix), Wild Wild Space (HBO), United States of Comedy (PBS Independent Lens), Any Problem is No Problem, Grizzly 399: Queen of the Tetons, #1 Dad (iHeart), and as the assistant score mixer on the Oscar®-nominated documentary Sugarcane. Sam has also worked under composer Pat Irwin, composing additional music for Dexter: Resurrection and Dexter: Original Sin (Showtime). Sam is a member of the New York Steering Committee for the Society of Composers & Lyricists, having previously served as the chapter administrator for three years. He has scored various shorts, ad spots, and his debut feature film Slaughter Beach won "Best Original Score" at the New Jersey Film Awards. In 2023, he assisted composer Jonathan Bepler on the Matthew Barney installation Secondary. Sam's writing incorporates his many musical influences, borrowing elements from jazz, classical, funk, pop, and beyond. His music often incorporates elements of improvisation. In addition to saxophone, Sam also plays flute, clarinet, and piano, and often records himself in his own scores. Sam received a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Performance from Temple University and a Master's Degree in Media Scoring from Brooklyn College. He was chosen to participate in the 2021 Society of Composers & Lyricists Mentor Program, the Ghetto Film School’s 2022 Emerging Composers Program, and the 2023 ASCAP Columbia Film Scoring Workshop and was a finalist for the 2022 ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award.
