Sound designer Joonas Taimla was born on August 11, 1996, in Tallinn, Estonia. He studied sound design at the Baltic Film and Media School of Tallinn University. His thesis film "The Rave" (2019, dir. Johannes Magnus Aule) earned him the Best Sound Design award at Best of BFM. During his studies, he also worked on production sound and sound design for the short film "My Dear Corpses" (2019, dir. German Golub), which went on to win a Student Academy Award in 2020. In 2026, he received the Estonian Film and Television Award for Best Sound Director in Film for the feature "Rolling Papers" (2025, dir. Meel Paliale).
